The coronavirus pandemic has affected the livelihood of Mumbai’s Dabbawalas. Of the 5,000 registered Dabbawalas, only 450 members are working. In the pre-covid years, each Dabbawala used to deliver 20-25 tiffins a day. With many offices shut and most of them on a work-from-home mode, the number has now come down to 5. Dabbawalas are the lifeline of Mumbai.

These lines from an Abhang by Sant Tukaram very simply state that trees, creepers and even the smallest of plants are very dear to us. It implies that we humans and other animals coexist in this environment and we owe the very seed of our existence to Nature. We are completely dependent for our survival on the forests and vegetation around us. One Book One Tree is our offering to the environment. By planting more trees, Rising Stars will contribute to reforestation efforts, restoring lost forests, repairing natural local ecosystems and contributing to the larger efforts of mitigating climate changes.
